Milica Schiavio: Milica in the Hat
Milica Schiavio, pronounced “M I L I T Z A” founded her “Milica in the Hat” millinery on the basis of wit for the passion to ignite. Her hand made, individually tailored fascinators and hats defy formality. Each whimsical work allows the wearer to make a dramatic entrance, spark curiosity, be theatrical, and incite an extravagant viewing experience. Each fascinator and hat is punctuated by bold hints of nature, land, material culture and their juxtaposition. The works are meant to bring the wearer to life, to celebrate the fusion of beauty and grace. They symbolize and invoke mood. They lead to dream.
Main Line based milliner Milica Schiavio builds her collection by following her own set of rules. Her unique, exuberant and original designs fuse and celebrate her observations of people, places, and events across the globe. Her hats and fascinators often include found objects acquired during her travels. They draw from social and cultural observations, yet are often based on nature and landscape. Her designs are both provocative and delicate, true to her own dynamic nature.
Milica Schiavio was born in Belgrade, Serbia and raised in Wynnewood, PA. She attended The Baldwin School, received a BA in International Area Studies from Drexel University and went on to get an MA at Johns Hopkins, SAIS having studied at both campuses, Bologna, Italy and Washington, D.C.
